Things I've learnt in 2020

So look, I'm going to level with you. This year so far has been.. a lot. Without going into detail, it's kinda what we would call a proverbial shit fight. (Hands up if you're with me on this!)
At the end of 2019 I decided that my word for 2020 was going to be "abundance", and damn did I get what I asked for.
An abundance of choices, pain, love, opportunity, tears, fear, courage, and every thing in between.
Having said that, I am so incredibly grateful everyday to wake up and be alive. I've learned lessons that I didn't think I would ever have to, and lessons that I didn't even know I needed to learn.
So here is my ever growing list of the things I've learnt in 2020 so far, take from it what you like.
It’s okay to cry in public.
It’s also possible to laugh and cry at the exact same time.
There are two kinds of people in the world; people that bring out the best in you and people that don’t.
You're not a victim to making the same mistakes over and over again, you just need to call yourself out on your own shit and do something different.
Loyalty isn’t dead, you just need to find the right people to be loyal to.
Sometimes self preservation and self care are the same things.
There are many different types of love and your heart will make room for all the love that you have and all the people that you want love, so don't hold back.
You can run head first at things you’re afraid of and go through it instead of being scared of it all your life.
It’s okay to love yourself like crazy.
When you feel like you can’t wake up and do the same shit all over again each day, you can.
Friendship is one of the most important things in the world .
Home is a feeling, not a place.
People will think and feel what they will, leave them to it.
Music can get you through a lot, let people put words to the things you can't express.
Asking for help (both emotional and physical) will change your life.
The tiniest bit of faith is stronger than any fear.
You don’t need to treat people the way they treat you.
Everything happens for a reason even if you don’t know what that reason is.
The best label is no label.
Always, always, always, trust your gut.
There’s no point in trying to guess the plan for your life.
Alcohol is not the answer.
You won’t ever need to ask the right person to love you, they just will.
Don’t fall for toxic behavior that looks like love.
It’s okay to grieve relationships privately without involving that person in that journey.
The afternoons and evenings are the worst, get through them and remember things aren’t as bad as they feel in those moments.
Don’t hold onto love and not say it.
Don’t hold onto hate, let it go.
Take bravery into your faith, and take faith into your life.
Cut your loses.
Back yourself.
People know where you are, they will come find you if they want to.
Be purposeful with the people that are in your life.
Find something that makes you laugh and incorporate into your life daily like exercise.
It’s okay to give people only one chance if you’ve communicated clearly what is a deal breaker for you.
Friends and family come first, no exception.
Don’t base your identity around a relationship.
Chase your passion fiercely, you will never regret it.
Silence is an answer.
Resting is not laziness.
You never know what the next day holds and that's the most exciting thing.
